Most 1988 to 1993 6 cylinder CIS fuel injection delivery (FID) systems are old and tired and have not been properly maintained. These include the W201 190E 2.6, the W124 260E 300E, 300CE, 300TE, the W126 300SE, and 300SEL, and the R129 300SL. ( NOTE: Many 1986 and 187 models only had one fuel pump - check to see what you have and advise us). In recent years, Kent has yet to see one of these cars where the complete system has been redone. He has seen pumps and filters changed, but it seems the fuel hoses are often overlooked. Ruptured fuel hoses are a real fire hazard. When this system starts to wear out you will have numerous engine performance problems due to poor and or / erratic fuel flow and pressure delivery to the engine. You will receive two on-demand videos that will be placed in your account to view online. One will cover general principles on how to drain the fuel out of your fuel tank (example from a 380SL). The other video will cover removing and rebuilding an FID from a 1986 420SEL with a V8 engine. Even though this is a V8 the system and principle are the same ( except for some fuel hoses.
There are some additional things you should consider if you plan on doing this job: If you suspect your fuel tank is "dirty," best you remove the fuel tank screen and drain the tank. Contaminated fuel is the number one reason for early fuel pump failure. The tank screen requires a special took to remove it while the fuel tank is still in the car. IMPORTANT NOTE: This kit does NOT cover any factory-swedged fuel hoses as explained in the video above. Please watch that video for precise details. We are just not able to provide factory hoses for every model as they do vary. You will be able to "fabricate" most of the hoses with the materials provided in the kit as shown in the instructional videos. You can order any "special" factory hoses from a Mercedes dealer.
